Xploder Media Centre

On June 30th 2006 we will see the launch of Xploder Media Centre for Xbox 360 – the advanced desktop utility that allows you to stream all digital movies and convert and stream music files from your PC for playback via the Xbox 360.

Make the most of your digital media collection; transform your Xbox 360 into the ultimate home entertainment system with Xploder Media Centre.

Movie streaming via the Xbox 360
  • Already built up a collection of digital movies?
  • Frustrated by the Xbox 360’s inability to cope with non-Microsoft-standard file types?

Now you can stream all your movies including those in DivX, MPEG, Xvid and WMV formats, in real-time to your TV via the Xbox 360 (connected to a Windows Media Centre PC). Xploder for Xbox 360 also allows you to play content in High Definition (dependent on individual system configuration and source files).

Playing music via the Xbox 360

Hook up your Xbox 360 to your AV system and playback digital music tracks. Convert CDs to MP3 format for digital playback, with all track, artist and album information provided automatically using an online database.

XboxBerg........out!

Anonymous Decouple 360 from MCE 0 Jun 20 2006, 4:25 PM EDT by Anonymous

This is a step in the right direction, but the coupling to Windows Media Center Edition is a show-stopper. There's no technical reason to tie this sort of functionality to an MCE box and the long-term payoff for MSFT (control over the living room) is greater than the revenue stream of the very few individuals that might buy and MCE box just to do this. Continuing with this coupling is a bad business move for MSFT and a show-stopper for consumers because of the cost.

Wise up Microsoft!

This could be really great... I do a lot with digital movies and it would be nice to just stream them to my TV to see how they really look. But as with everything it really comes down to price with how successful this product will be. Still, I think it's a great idea.

konkushn Can't wait to see all the features! 0 Jun 8 2006, 7:41 PM EDT by konkushn

I have created an online movie library with my 360 via the Media Center. I encoded my DVDs to Hi-Def resolution WMV files. Each movie has a folder and I saved the DVD cover art in JPG files called folder.jpg. When I browse my movies on the 360, I see a big list of DVD covers. Just click, and I have an awesome 1080i resolution movie with full Dolby 5.1. It will be interesting to see what the features of this media center are, and how it will work!

So I have to buy a 360 and Windows MCE just to "transcode" video to my TV through my 360? No thanks. PS2 and Xbox can already play these formats off of a local network... and the cost to buy and mod a PS2 or Xbox is about 1/3 the cost of a 360 and Windows MCE. Thanks for giving us the -easy- functionality.

I bought my Xbox just to stream media to it via XBMC. I probably would've bought a 360 on launch if they would've included this functionality into the 360 natively. Why they didn't? I guess so they could sell more Media Center Edition PCs.
