I was so excited on the day I got my 360 and what really mattered was the games but for the first couple weeks, I was without any Internet Connection to my 360. The Premium 360 comes with an ethernet cable, but as my 360 is in the living room and my router is in the dining room with my computers I couldn't very well extend the cord that much. First I tried linking my cord to my laptop which is wirelessly connected to the internet but it didn't work right and even if it did, I would've had to pull out the laptop everytime I wanted the 360 online... which then I'd probably forget to set up and I wouldn't get updates.
So, one evening I go out to get the wireless ethernet adapter and unfortunately I couldn't find it for less than $99.99 (I once saw it for $89.99 somewhere) so I bought it, plugged it in and it has worked ever since. In fact, it even attaches to the back of the 360, so if you take it anywhere the part just stays on. Trying to figure out exactly how to set it up is fairly straitforward and simple but I always get a little confused with the different things it wants me to type in (Hardly Microsofts fault).
Online connectivity is pretty important for the 360 even if you do not have Live Gold... and anyone who wants the full xbox live experience should at least seriously consider this item if you have a wireless router... but, yeah, it's useless without a wireless router so be sure your broadband router is wireless before buying this or you'll just have an expensive customization block on the back of your 360.
