Graphics: 8 / 10
Graphics in Project Gotham Racing 3 are simply breathtaking. Supporting It supports all the various HD resolutions offered by the 360 hardware. From the minute you start up the game and view the stylish menus availableavailable, you know that this game is high quality. The details in the cars are phenomenal. The new in cabin-cab viewpoint is such an improvement over previous ones. Once you experience itit, going back to other games is hard. Details in the environments often look photorealistic and are intricately detailed after the real life locations. There is no slowdown to speak of during gameplay. The graphics of PGR 3 can be considered some of, if not the best, on the Xbox 360 to date.
Sound: 8 / 10
Like the graphics, the sound of PGR 3 is also amazing. The car engines all sound different depending on the situation. EffectsEffects, like the screeching of tirestires, are riveting. The soundtrack included in the game is of high quality ranging from genres like pop, rock, and hip hop. Very few people will be using custom soundtracks with this game.
Controls: 9 / 10
The controls of PGR 3 stand out thanks to the amazing Xbox 360 gamepad. You have your gas and brake mapped to the left and right trigger buttons. The movements are of course mapped to the analog sticks and are really responsive. Actions like reverse and gear shifts are easily accessed. You simply can notcannot ask for any better control for a racing game.
Gameplay: 9/ 10
The gameplay in PGR 3 does not feel at all like a first generation title would be expected to feel. The game starts you off with a simple, short, but sweet offline career mode. From there, you can take part in the brand new Online Career against Xbox Live players. You have full access to a wide range of super cars within the first hour. The actual racing itself is also incredibly solid, yet familiar. Anyone well versed in the franchise will find themselves at home with PGR 3.
Longevity: 10 / 10
The longevity of PGR titles have always been the series trump card. The single player comes in at around 10 to 15 hours on all difficulties except platinum, so the game may not be worth purchasing for those without Xbox Live. This review is based on the entire product, so factoring online aspects is a must. You can play online in the Online Career mode for as long as you are interested. Then you have the custom match lobbies that you can race with friends in. There are also a lot of cars that-- areit's going to take you quite some time to purchase all of.of them. Count in the highly skill basedskill-based and even online basedonline-based achievements and what you have is the best replay value currently on the Xbox 360.
Overall: 9 / 10
PGR 3 is a shining example of how to do a proper racing launch title. It takes everything that past games excel at doing, improved upon them, and added in all the graphicalgraphic and feature full bells and whistles you would expect from next gen gaming. The only real sore spot to this title is a short single player experience making it almost mandatory that you be an Xbox Live gold member to validate the price, price -- and the fact that the gameplay is highly familiar.
