Mutant Storm Reloaded is simply the best looking title in the Xbox Live Arcade. All backgrounds animate and change in appearance as you progress from level to level. The enemies in the game animate well and are all varied in size and color. Impressively, the game suffers from no slowdown no matter how many enemies and explosions appear onscreen, which is an impressive feat for a budget based title. The sound is also very pleasant. Gamers will find a range of futuristic techno beats to dance tracks for listening pleasure. Factor in clear and sharp sound effects and you have a presentation worthy of a full price piece of software.

Gameplay: 8 out of 10
MSR is very similar to the title Geometry Wars in that the gamer has control of a single ship task with destroying a single screen full of enemy targets. The main difference between the two titles is the GW takes a more simplistic approach using only one background and automatically rewarding powerups upon points scored. MSR, on the other hand, has a unique stage design for every level, it makes you earn powerups by chasing them down, and offers multiple difficulty settings. Stages in MSR also often feature obstacles that can stop you from moving to certain areas and stages also feature boss characters that have to be defeated. The control in MSR is a very tight setup that uses analog sticks for movement and shooting with some commands mapped to the trigger buttons ala GW. Gameplay in Mutant Storm Reloaded in both simple, complicated, and addictive which equals great value in a budget priced title.

Mutant storm just simply amazes with its great sense of style and addictive gameplay. Gamers who are looking for twitch shooter gameplay with next generation graphical effects need to look no further. MSR is an incredible value for a budget price title offering more gameplay and options then some full priced titles. I consider this title to be highly underrated and lost against competing titles like Geometry Wars that just don’t have the level of finesse and options to compete with MSR. Mutant Storm Reloaded is the best value on the arcade and a must own for Xbox 360 gamers.
