M'soft Hints at Simpler 360 Controller
It used to be that the heavy hitters of the gaming world would rather die than imitate their competitors. These days, what with the PS3's controller suddenly coming up with Wii-like motion sensors and a big 360-like button in the middle that can start the console or bring up the menu, it seems like console manufacturers are more than happy to crib off of oneanother. Microsoft just might be taking a cue from the Wii's far more accessible controller, as Peter Moore has hinted that a simpler 360 controller may be on the way.
At a recent EA Community Event, Moore said the company is looking at "Any way that we can play and make games easier and more intuitive, that takes the intimidation factor away from what is a pretty complex device now when you look at the controller."
"Shoulder buttons, triggers, analog sticks, d-pads - I mean, there's a lot going on there."
Compare it to the old Atari 2600 joystick, Moore suggested - which "Everybody could pick up and have some fun with. Clearly I think the Wii is trying to get back to those days, although when I picked it up I was surprised how much stuff is on there, and it took me a little while even then to get going on those things."
Does this mean you'll soon be able to take on your mom in a Rumble Roses XX match? Dear lord, I hope not. But she might be able to enjoy some Viva Pinata.
