Dashboard Update?
Story courtesy of www.pixelgamers.com
The Xbox Live Dashboard WILL be receiving a massive Dashboard update at the end of May according to reports over in Germany.
Xbox Archiv recently got confirmation from Boris Schneider-Johne, Senior Product Manager Xbox Platform and Accessories of Microsoft Germany.
Xbox Archiv said "We got confirmation from Boris Schneider-Johne that a huge Dashboard Update will arrive at the end of may! It will feature a download manager for 6 parallel downloads in the background. He also mentions that there will be a lot more features in there but it will be a surprise and he won’t talk about it! The downloads will also be running while a game is played."
This is most certainly great news for all Xbox Live subscribers because not only does it show Microsoft are keen to push the system forward but one of the biggest problems with the Dashboard has been the inability to play while you download.
This has never been more apparent than during E3 as the Marketplace has been flooded with trailers and demos giving you no time to keep up.
Only yesterday, whilst I was downloading the days trailers and demos, I wished I could just download more than one item or at least play while downloading.
This new feature could cause potential problems for gamers though as many broadband connections are not cut out for download while you play, at least not for a truly smooth experience. Hopefully this won't be the case and if it does, people will understand that you can't do everything at once.
Either way, we welcome it with open arms. Roll on June!

OK ideally playing while down loading is fantastic, but downloading more than one item? thats not going to help.Xbox can down load as fast as it can and forcing more info down the pipe will only result in slower down loading.Playing online while download would probubly be the same and may result in cuts in connection either during gameplay or downloading. But off line and even movie viewing or music options would be morw than welcome. Also allowing gamers to feature any pic in there gamer profile, something live POS has treased but not delivered

Thats pretty good news because the downloads take a really long time, and leave you with nothing to do really. I will be amazed to see this happen but i dont think the chances of it happening are very likely.

This has really been my only complaint with the Xbox Live service, besides those few games that are disconnected (but that's usually my ISP or EA). Finally, I'll be able to play an awesome game of Uno, while letting something download in the background.
This update just cannot come soon enough, Jmann2k1 |
