Call of Duty 3
General comments:
Ok let's get something strait here right from the off. This game is not made by Infinity Ward, the game developers of COD2. Because of this I was a bit weary of having the great same experience as I have had with COD2. Treyarch took the reigns this time round have have given us a very different approach to the Call Of Duty franchise. The best way I can describe this game to someone who has not played it is, imagine Battlefield 2 based in World War 2. There you have it, sounds good? yeah maybe, sound interesting?, yes it does, does it fulfill my Call Of Duty addiction, no it doesn't and here is why.

Graphics: 09 / 10
Subtle differences make the graphics on COD 3 better than COD 2. For example, the lines are smoother and not so ridged. When bringing up the aim of your gun or rifle what your aiming at is totally in focus but the edges of the screen are blurred out and out of focus. Character models look amazing and the animation is phenomenal, this department deserves a pat on the back in itself.

Sound: 10 / 10
WOW, COD 2 was the game to show off your surround sound and this surpasses that. Everything around you exploding and blowing up, guns sound like they should and tanks are awesome.

Controls: 07 / 10
Why oh why does my player melee attack so easily? Why am I unable to jump over a 2 foot wall and a small fence? Why do I have to walk around it. Why do I have to melle attack someone twice to kill them? Why is my sniper rifle so much more difficult to aim. These are just some of the small and extremely annoying control issues that can make me turn the game off.

Gameplay: 08 / 10
Do not expect this game to be Call Of Duty 2 with different maps. It's not and if you do you will be disappointed. I did and I was. Expect a completely different game more in the lines on Battlefield.

Single-player
Long lasting appeal, great story and very immerse.

Multi-player
I will have to get back to you on this one once the patch comes out to fix connection issues to games.

Replay value, longevity: 08 / 10

Single-player
Once you have completed the single player campaign you will keep coming back until you have beat it on it's hardest level.

Multi-player
This is what makes Call Of Duty what it is. Again, once patched I will come back to fix this.

Overall rating: 08 / 10 overall

The single-player verson of COD3 is awesome, and well worth the time if you want to emerse yourself in a great story line and lots of action. However, the online-play is why I have gone back to playing Call of Duty 2, only 3 weeks after COD3 came out. Most of my online friends have done the same. The notion of adding 24 people to a room was neat, but completely takes away from the social aspects of COD2. COD2 is just more fund and enjoyable than COD3, and the ability to clearly communicate with other players is far above COD3.

I found getting into a game on COD3 difficult, and the pre-game regimend of selecting the type of player you want to be a nice idea but unnecessary.

Perhaps the best qualities of COD are the sound effects, which are crystal clear and awesome when cranked up on your surround sound system. The weapons are much more realistic, but are too frustrating for a video game. Remember, you are shooting a rifle with a joystick, not a real rifer up to your shoulder (an idea for the wii?). I did enjoy the fresh new maps and the focus difference between foreground and distant ground. The theme music is a plus, and is nice to listen to when you have to take that pesky phone call or the bathroom break in between games.

Final analysis - buy it for the single player and pretend it is not part of the COD franchise. Then, push the makers of COD2 to come out with more maps for COD2.
