CCO Review - Schindler

SEGA has really done it this time -- from elaborate environments to unique features that I have never been introduced to until now. Condemned: Criminal Origins, is a top-of-the-line game that brings “thriller” to a new level…it’s the game that will make all of us sleep with the lights on.

Graphics: 9.5 / 10
The graphics are AMAZING. The lighting effects are the driving part of the standout success of the graphics. They bring the intensity WAY up. Rooms are lit just enough that you can see with your flashlight off, but you’ll need it on to spot quickly moving enemies and collect evidence.

Vast environments contribute to the excitement of the game. There are so many places to explore, but they are connected well enough to prevent you from getting lost. The monologues (movies) in this game are extreme. They are so real and the physics are so lifelike, that you think you are in the game. You never know what will happen next.

Melee duels are incredibly realistic. Close combat graphics are amazing - facial expressions and facial features adapt when the character is struck or shot. These graphics have to be the most intricate and detailed I’ve seen throughout my gaming experience…incredible.

Sound: 10 / 10
Lifelike, 360 degree sounds really enhance the game play. Kick a box and hear it tumble down a hallway, hear a drug addict drop a bottle in an adjoining room, hear your weapon smash into your enemies flesh and bones – awesome. The sound is so good that you can understand what’s going on with your eyes closed and it really explains a lot about how the game should be played. By yourself with the lights off, and the sound WAYYYY up.

Controls: 8.5 / 10
The controls, while okay, were one of the weaker aspects of the game. Although they smooth out once you get into the game a little bit, they’re not as intuitive at first glance as they could be. BUT, considering there are so many features that need to be taken into account, the controls are relatively easy once you get used to them. They're not as high quality as the rest of the game, but they're still good enough to feed the addiction.

Gameplay: 10 / 10
The gameplay is very smooth and the physics are incredibly lifelike – both a big factor in making the game as addictive as it is. There are many unique abilities and features that you can explore and use to your advantage. Stun enemies with a tazor, beat them with anything you can pick up: pipes, crowbars, shovels, fire axes (personal fav!), and basic police issued weapons, such as semi-auto pistols and batons. Overall, incredible gameplay that is near perfect.

Overall: 9.25 / 10
This is the kind of game that makes you want to play it over and over until it’s done and then start over on a harder setting. Crazy addicting. I recommend this to any person who is man enough to play it. If you like the thriller game genre, I guarantee this game is perfect for you. I know I liked it.
